Our Powered Pallet Truck (PPT) Operator Training course prepares you to operate pedestrian, rider-operated, and stacker-type pallet trucks used in warehousing, cold storage, retail distribution, and manufacturing environments. PPTs are among the most widely used pieces of lifting equipment in South African logistics, moving palletised stock quickly and safely across loading bays, aisles, and picking areas.
The course is an intensive 3-day programme combining classroom theory on PPT types, battery care, and stability principles with hands-on practical training on real equipment. You will learn pre-operational inspections, load handling, travelling with a raised load, and safe manoeuvring in tight warehouse and cold-store environments under the guidance of experienced instructors.
Powered Pallet Truck training is one of the core programmes offered under our Lifting Machinery training field, alongside Forklift, Reach Truck, Overhead Crane, Mobile Crane, and Rigging & Slinging courses. Many students combine PPT certification with a Forklift or Reach Truck course to broaden their employability across warehousing and distribution roles.
The course also covers the stability triangle, ramp and incline operation, pedestrian safety, and legal requirements for operating lifting machinery in the workplace. Pedestrian, rider-operated, and stacker-type PPT components, battery and hydraulic systems. The stability triangle, load charts, and centre of gravity. Legal requirements, PPE, and pedestrian safety around lifting machinery.
Basic Load Handling & Manoeuvring
Hands-on familiarisation and pre-operational inspection. Basic manoeuvring in open areas. Picking up and placing loads. Travelling with a raised load. Operating safely on ramps, dock levellers, and inclines.
Aisle Work, Racking & Assessment
Manoeuvring in confined warehouse aisles and cold-store environments. Handling uneven loads. Independent practical competency evaluation. Oral assessment on safety and maintenance. Certificate and operator licence card briefing, plus job application guidance.

Certificate & Operator Card Renewal
Certificates and operator licence cards issued by DT Academy are valid for 2 years from the date of issue. Once your certificate expires, it can be renewed at a cost — and because renewal doesn't require repeating the full course, our team can usually process it in the same visit.
