Operate A Mobile Crane
Train to operate hydraulic and telescopic mobile cranes across construction, mining, and logistics sites.
Our Mobile Crane Operator Training course prepares you to command the most versatile lifting machines on any job site. Mobile cranes — whether hydraulic telescopic, lattice boom, or all-terrain — are the workhorses of construction, mining, and logistics industries across South Africa. Their ability to travel between sites under their own power and set up rapidly makes them indispensable for projects ranging from bridge construction to wind turbine installation.
The course is an intensive 1-week programme combining classroom theory on crane mechanics, hydraulic systems, and load dynamics with hands-on practical training on real mobile cranes. You will learn outrigger deployment, boom extension sequences, load chart interpretation, and safe lifting in confined spaces under the guidance of instructors with decades of combined site experience.
Mobile crane certification is the cornerstone of a successful lifting career and pairs naturally with Truck Mounted Crane and Tower Crane qualifications. Many of our graduates hold multiple crane endorsements, making them highly sought-after by construction firms, mining contractors, and logistics companies nationwide.
The course also covers tandem lifting procedures, working near overhead power lines, and transport configuration for road travel. If you are weighing up training options beyond lifting, DT Academy also offers Mining Machinery, Security Training, and Health & Safety courses from the same Pretoria Central campus.
- Mobile crane types: hydraulic, lattice boom, and all-terrain
- Outrigger setup, ground pressure assessment, and matting
- Boom extension, angle control, and radius calculation
- Load chart reading and safe working load determination
- Precision lifting, load swinging control, and placement
- Pre-operational inspection and daily maintenance routines
- Transport mode configuration and road travel safety
