Our Drill Rig Operator Training course prepares you to operate surface and underground drill rigs used in mining exploration, blast-hole drilling, and core sampling. Drill rigs are critical machines for ore body definition, geological surveying, and production blasting in both open-pit and underground mining operations. This course covers rotary, percussive, and diamond core drilling techniques on modern hydraulic drill rigs.

The course is an intensive 1-week programme combining classroom theory on drilling principles, rock mechanics, and compressor systems with hands-on practical training on actual drill rigs. You will learn setup and positioning, rod handling, drilling parameter control, and maintenance routines under the guidance of experienced mining instructors.

Drill rig training is one of the specialised mining programmes offered under our Mining & Machinery training field, alongside Excavator, LHD Scoop, and ADT Dump Truck operator training. Many students combine drill rig certification with other underground courses to maximise their employability across exploration and production mining sectors.
