Our Bobcat Operator Training course teaches you to operate skid steer loaders with confidence and precision. Bobcat machines are versatile workhorses used across construction, landscaping, agriculture, and mining for tasks ranging from material handling and trenching to grading and demolition. Their compact size and zero-turn radius make them ideal for tight spaces where larger equipment cannot operate.
The course is an intensive 1-week programme combining classroom theory on machine systems, hydraulic controls, and site safety with extensive hands-on practical training. You will operate real Bobcat equipment under instructor supervision, learning bucket control, attachment changeover, and safe manoeuvring in confined work areas.
Bobcat training is one of the surface machinery programmes offered under our Mining & Machinery training field, alongside Excavator, Front End Loader, and Grader operator training. Many students combine Bobcat certification with other loader courses to broaden their employability across construction and mining sectors.
The course also covers attachment operations including forks, augers, and trenchers, as well as site-specific risk assessment and pedestrian safety protocols. Machine Introduction & Safety
Bobcat skid steer components, hydraulic systems, controls and instrumentation. Site safety regulations, PPE requirements, and hazard identification. Daily inspection and pre-start procedures.
Operating Principles & Attachments
Bucket operations, loading and dumping techniques. Attachment types: forks, augers, trenchers, and grapples. Changeover procedures and safety locks. Ground conditions and stability awareness.
Basic Controls & Manoeuvring
Hands-on cab familiarisation. Forward and reverse driving, pivot turns, and tight-space navigation. Basic bucket operations: lift, tilt, and curl. Controlled loading and dumping exercises.
Advanced Operations & Attachments
Precision grading and levelling. Back-dragging and material spreading. Attachment operation under supervision. Working on slopes and uneven terrain. Pedestrian and traffic awareness.
Assessment & Certification
Independent practical competency evaluation covering all learned skills. Oral assessment on safety and maintenance knowledge. Certificate and operator licence card briefing, plus job application guidance.
