Operate An ADT Dump Truck
Learn safe haul road driving, load management, & tipping operations on ADT.
Our ADT (Articulated Dump Truck) Operator Training course gives you the practical skills to haul bulk material safely and efficiently across rough haul roads. Whether you're moving overburden on a mine, hauling material on a civil earthworks site, or supporting a quarry operation, this 5-day intensive course prepares you for real-world demands.
The course is split into two days of classroom theory — covering articulated steering dynamics, load calculations, haul road safety and regulations — followed by three full days of hands-on practical training, operating a real ADT on-site under close instructor supervision. This structure gives you enough repetition on the controls to build genuine confidence before your final assessment.
ADT training is one of sixteen machine operator courses offered under our Mining & Machinery training field, alongside programmes such as Front End Loader, Excavator, Grader and TLB (Tractor-Loader-Backhoe) operator training. Many students combine ADT with a loading machine course such as Front End Loader or Excavator to broaden their employability.
The course also covers pre-trip inspections, reversing and spotting near loading machines, and working safely on inclines and declines — giving you the complete skill set employers expect from a certified ADT operator. If you're weighing up training options beyond machinery, DT Academy also offers Lifting Machinery, Security Training, and Health & Safety courses from the same Pretoria Central campus.
