Move Production with Precision Overhead Crane Training
Train to operate bridge, gantry, and jib overhead cranes in factories, warehouses, and workshops. QCTO-aligned certification with trolley control, load positioning, and production line integration under certified instructors.
Our Overhead Crane Operator Training course prepares you to operate the silent workhorses that power South Africa's manufacturing and warehousing sectors. Overhead cranes — bridge cranes, gantry cranes, and jib cranes — move everything from raw steel and engine blocks to shipping containers and assembly components with millimetre precision across factory floors and storage yards.
The course is an intensive 1-week programme combining classroom theory on crane runway systems, electrical controls, and factory safety with hands-on practical training on real overhead cranes. You will learn pendant and radio remote control operation, trolley traverse and bridge travel coordination, load sway damping, and integration with production line workflows under the guidance of instructors with industrial maintenance backgrounds.
Overhead crane operation is a critical skill in the lifting machinery field, complementing Mobile Crane, Tower Crane, and Forklift certifications. Many factory maintenance technicians and warehouse supervisors add overhead crane operation to their qualifications, making them indispensable to manufacturing operations across Gauteng and beyond.
The course also covers limit switch testing, emergency stop protocols, and working alongside production personnel in active factory environments. If you are exploring broader career paths, DT Academy also offers Mining Machinery, Security Training, and Health & Safety courses from the same Pretoria Central campus.

Certificate & Operator Card Renewal
Certificates and operator licence cards issued by DT Academy are valid for 2 years from the date of issue. Once your certificate expires, it can be renewed at a cost — and because renewal doesn't require repeating the full course, our team can usually process it in the same visit.
Ask About RenewalWho Should Attend
- Job seekers wanting to enter manufacturing or warehousing
- Factory workers looking to move into crane operation
- Company employees who need overhead crane certification
- Experienced operators needing a formal QCTO-aligned certificate
- Anyone whose overhead crane operator card has expired
Career Opportunities After Certification
- Overhead Crane Operator
- Factory Material Handler
- Warehouse Lift Specialist
