Master the Skies with Tower Crane Training
Train to operate hammerhead and luffing jib tower cranes on high-rise construction sites. QCTO-aligned certification with cab familiarisation, load chart mastery, and 360-degree slewing practice under certified instructors.
Our Tower Crane Operator Training course equips you to command the vertical giants that define modern skylines. Tower cranes are the backbone of high-rise construction, infrastructure megaprojects, and large-scale industrial developments across South Africa. From the vertical mast and slewing unit to the horizontal jib and trolley system, you will master every component that makes these machines reach heights of 80 metres and beyond.
The course is an intensive 5-day programme combining classroom theory on crane physics, load dynamics, and South African lifting regulations with hands-on practical training in a real tower crane cab. You will learn mast climbing procedures, radius control, anti-collision systems, and precision load placement under the guidance of seasoned construction instructors with site experience on major developments.
Tower crane operation is one of the most respected specialisations in the lifting machinery field, alongside Mobile Crane, Truck Mounted Crane, and Overhead Crane operator training. Many students stack multiple crane certifications to become versatile lifting specialists capable of working across construction, mining, and logistics sectors.
The course also covers wind-speed protocols, emergency evacuation procedures, and communication with ground riggers and signallers. If you are exploring broader career paths, DT Academy also offers Mining Machinery, Security Training, and Health & Safety courses from the same Pretoria Central campus.
- Tower crane assembly, climbing, and dismantling awareness
- Cab controls, joystick operation, and display panel reading
- Load chart interpretation and moment limiter systems
