Operate A Motor Grader
Learn precise blade control, road grading and drainage cutting on motor graders.
Our Grader Operator Training course gives you the practical skills to shape and maintain roads, camber and drainage to a professional standard. Whether you're building gravel access roads on a mine, maintaining haul roads, or grading municipal streets, this 5-day intensive course prepares you for real-world demands.
The course is split into two days of classroom theory — covering machine systems, blade mechanics, grading theory and safety regulations — followed by three full days of hands-on practical training, operating a real motor grader on-site under close instructor supervision. This structure gives you enough repetition on the controls to build genuine confidence before your final assessment.
Grader training is one of sixteen machine operator courses offered under our Mining & Machinery training field, alongside programmes such as Front End Loader, 777 Rigid Dump Truck, Excavator and ADT Dump Truck operator training. Many students combine Grader training with a related earthmoving course to broaden their employability.
The course also covers ripping and scarifying hard surfaces, reading survey pegs and grade stakes, and daily maintenance routines — giving you the complete skill set employers expect from a certified grader operator. If you're weighing up training options beyond machinery, DT Academy also offers Lifting Machinery, Security Training, and Health & Safety courses from the same Pretoria Central campus.
